Afro-Cuban Contemporary November
Afro-Cuban Contemporary blends the rhythms and traditions of Afro-Cuban folkloric dance, rooted in West African heritage, with the fluidity, floorwork and breath-led movement (i.e. how the breath helps shape a movement) of contemporary technique. The class invites dancers to move deeply with the music, treating its rhythms as a guide for timing and flow, while bringing intention to every movement. In this way, we understand not just how to do it... but why.
Dancers will build musicality, grounded strength, undulations fluidity and body isolation, along with greater expression and stage presence. It’s great cross-training for ballet, jazz, hip-hop and Latin dancers. All levels are welcome, and no prior Afro-Cuban experience is needed!
